Trev the Truckie’s road safety school visitMarch 2005 saw Trev the Truckie’s road safety message, ‘Safely delivering to Australia’, presented to the Prince Alfred College Preparatory School students by concept creator, Mark Prior. An opportunity to introduce the Trev the Truckie concept, Mark formulated a ‘be safe’ road safety message encouraging children to ‘stop, look, and listen’ before crossing a road. Several entertaining Trev the Truckie stories were read to the receptive young audience, along with an informative discussion of important road safety tips. Prince Alfred College’s involvement with Trev the Truckie came about when music teacher, Jenny Chapman, learned of the concept from a fellow member of the Police Credit Union Choir. Jenny realised that Trev the Truckie’s message, along with his sound ethics and high integrity, was something many students would benefit from.
Collaboration between Jenny Chapman and Norma Prior resulted in the development of a Trev the Truckie theme song. The catchy song was performed by the Prince Alfred College Preparatory School Singers at their annual open day, and proved popular to the enthusiastic and appreciative crowd. The efforts of the singers and teachers were rewarded by a long and loud ovation. The new truck (pictured above), kindly organised by supporter Craig Arthur, was also a focal point, generating much interest among the students. In the process of initiating their own road safety campaign, the college appreciated Trev the Truckie’s timely safety message. The students obviously enjoyed the educational visit and learnt a great deal from Trev the Truckie (aka Mark Prior). ‘It’s great to be able to offer the Trev the Truckie concept and his road safety message to the community. The day was a huge success. I’m really looking forward to the next school visit,’ Mark said. The head of Prince Alfred College’s Preparatory School, Grant Nalder, college staff, and parents, had high praise and encouragement for Mark Prior’s efforts and his Trev the Truckie concept.
